Written by Steven Koren, Mark O'Keefe and revised by Steve Odekerk, "Bruce Almighty", stars Jim Carrey as Bruce Nolan, a whiny TV reporter who constantly complains about his life, his job, and the job God's doing. Tired, God (Morgan Freeman) summons him and challenges him to trade places for a few days. If Bruce doesn't do a better job, humanity will revert back to the dark ages.

Tom Shadyac (Ace Ventura, Liar, Liar) directs the film, with Shady Acres Entertainment (Shadyac's Company), Pit Bull Productions (Carrey's Company), and Spyglass Entertainment who will co-produce/distribute the film international, and Universal Pictures will distribute the film in the United States.

Principal photography started on August 6, 2002 in Los Angeles. due to script revisions, budget cuts, and time constraints. several scenes set to be shot on location at Buffalo, N.Y., and Niagara Falls, were either totally scrapped, or the main characters will be inserted using special effects into footage already shot in late August by a second unit. Among this footage is a variety of views of Buffalo's waterfront, shots from the tops of several downtown buildings, and of the Niagara Falls. Scouting teams were first seen checking the area on late April. The movie wrapped up production on December 4, 2002. The movie is now in post-production. The movie is expected to be released tentatively to theaters on May 23, 2003.

Bruce Almighty is being produced by Jim Carrey, Tom Shadyac, Jim Brubaker, Michael Bostick, Steven Koren, and Mark O'Keefe. Gary Barber, and Roger Birnbaum serve as executive producers. Linda Fields-Hill, and Janet Wattles serve as associate producers. The film has a budget of $80 million.

Official cast additions are, Jennifer Aniston of the hit televsion show (Friends) has signed on to play Bruce's girlfriend Grace. Morgan Freeman has also been cast and will be playing God. Lisa Ann Walter, Catherine Bell, Steve Carell, Nora Dunn, Philip Baker Hall have all joined the supporting cast.
